IV Sedation :

I.V. Sedation is recommended for extremely apprehensive children, young children, and children with special needs that would not work well under nitrous oxide sedation. The pediatric dentist performs the dental treatment in office with the child anesthetized under I.V. sedation and monitored by a dental anesthesiologist.

Before to your appointment:

1) Please inform us of any change in your child’s health or medical condition. Do not bring your child for treatment with a fever, ear infection, cold or congestion. If your child become ill please contact us to see if it is necessary to delay the appointment.
2) Please inform us of any drugs that your child is currently taking including any drug reactions, allergies or changes in medical history.
3) Please dress your child in loose fitting and comfortable clothing.
4) Please make sure that your child goes to the bathroom prior to arriving at the office.
5) Please make sure Your child does not have milk or solid food after midnight prior to the scheduled procedure. Only ingest or drink clear liquids ONLY (water, apple juice) for up to 6 hours prior to the appointment.
6) The parent or legal guardian must remain at the office during the time of treatment.

After the sedation appointment:

1) please stay with your child all day post treatment since he/she will be drowsy and will need to be monitored very closely.
2) If your child wants to sleep, place them on their side with their chin up. Wake your child every hour and encourage them to have something to drink in order to prevent dehydration. The first meal should be light and easily digestible.
3) If your child vomits, you must help bend them over and turn their head to the side to make sure they do not inhale their vomit.
4) Please call our office with any questions or concerns that you might have.
